The Robison – Bass household

This formal family portrait is undated, but must be from about 1934 or 1935. The boy in the lower right corner is Darrell, who was born in 1932. The best we can probably do is to guess at a date based on the known birth dates of the children and how old they appear here:

Back row, left to right: Bill (March 4, 1919), Keith (August 24, 1915), and Vern (May 7, 1917)

Front row, left to right: Sam (January 2, 1925), David (May 19, 1930), Darrell (January 21, 1932), and Phyllis (August 29, 1923).

Note shown: Donald (1921 – 1931)

W. S. Robison and Mabel Bass, summer 1911 (?)

This household of the Robison family began on August 21, 1911, when W. S. (Bill) Robison married Mabel Lena Bass in the parlor of the home of Mabel’s father and mother, at 4531 Brooklyn Avenue, in the University District of Seattle. (Did the Rev. William Alphaeus Bass officiate?) They continued to live in a downstairs apartment at this address for several years to allow Mabel to attend law school at the University of Washington, where she had graduated with an A.B. degree two months before they married. The Basses apparently had properties on both sides of Brooklyn Avenue at that time. (I’m not sure what the “at home” address of “1423 N. 31st” on the wedding announcement refers to. Does anyone know?)
